Township of Langley
Township of Langley - The Township of Langley is
known as the Birthplace of BC. First inhabited by First
Nations people, now known as the Sto:lo. In the early
1800’s European fur traders of the Hudson Bay Company
settled in the area now known as Fort Langley. In 1827,
under the direction of James McMillan, Chief Trader of
the Hudson’s Bay Company, these new settlers built the
original “Fort”. Soon Fort Langley became a hub for
farming, smithing and for shipping furs back to Europe.

“land freeze”. In 1979 the Township of Langley adopted
